Cast Away

'' Speed thrills and kills '' - reads out loud and in big bold words to every speeding motorist on the Pune - Mumbai expressway..In my case it got me stranded and helpless in the middle of nowhere..There I was thinking about my friend Hank and what his helpless self must have done while he was cast away on a remote island..
Jet Skiing -
Wow ! Lets do it.. That's exactly what i first said when my friend Mr Nomani mentioned it to me..Its a superb adrelanine pumping// full on adventure sport thingy..and off we went to Mamzar ( Behind Taawun mall as the instruction mentioned on the card ) .. The shack owner Mr Anwar finally let us have the t(h)rill of our lives after cut throat negi on d price , since it was a friday..200 dhs for 1 hr was fixed after taking the legend -  ''thakur saabs'' bataka as a security deposit. Now that 1 hr of thrill had to be split 50/50 between me and safi as anwar was going to give us only one watermachine..since it was my first time - i decided to go first..basic start n stop instructions and off i went..it was me ..d jetti and the water..we connected from the moment i got on to the thingy..and after sometime it was like we were one..i was finally having the thrill of my life..once i was well averse of my gear i decided to rev up  my tempo and get some more excitement..all was going well until...the all ''gone in water'' thing finally happened..it was a splitsy of a sec..it was more like a bollywood movie - hero jumps off  jet ski to save his heroine and fight the goons..except there were no goons, no ladylove and the only hero in d mov was the 'first timer'..
If there are two people i would like to thank ( actually three people ) it would be allah ,  my mom and the lifeguard who threw me in the pool and teached me how to kick and splash until i learnt what they called ''swimming''- to save my life..
Icing on the cake  - my life jacket came off and there was not a single soul in the vicinity to come to my rescue..not a single soul to even record my fullon murugan style jump of the jetti..somehow i managed to get back to the jetti which was at quite a distance after scaling the towering waves..finally i reached the jetti , but getting on the damn thing was like getting on the back of an elephant..it took me all my strength to pull my body out of the water and on to the jetti..uff what a relief..wait -- -  the nightmare was far from over..
so how do u get this thing started - everything has a key, and so did the jetti , only thing was the key to start the engine was somewhere at the bottom of the ocean..yup - now what ?
i did what we indians are experts at doing - wait..wait for somebody to come arnd and help me..after abt 15 mins guess who came to my rescue - my kings knight in shining armour ( the Dubai Police patrol vehicle )..
im going jet skiing next week again..this time not alone..

REUSE. RECYCLE
What is recycled paper and what is the main objective behind using it?
Paper recycling is the process of recovering waste paper and remaking it into new paper products. There are three categories of paper that can be used as feedstock for making recycled paper: mill broke, pre-consumer waste, and post-consumer waste.

• Pre-consumer waste is material that was discarded before it was ready for consumer use.

• Post-consumer waste is material discarded after consumer use, including OM (old magazines), OTD (old telephone directories), and RMP (residential mixed paper).

• Mill broke is paper trimmings and other paper scrap from the manufacture of paper.
SAVE TREES AND SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT. Have you read these words before?

Yes, many times. But have you done anything about it? NO. Why?
• Don’t care

• Doesn’t affect me directly

• Too lazy to go and buy it from a shop where it’s easily available

• Recycled paper looks so boring. I want to use fancy books
So much has been written and spoken about global warming being the biggest threat to the world today. We feel sad for a moment and then it’s forgotten. The world’s population is believed to be approximately 6,708,700,100. Imagine how much paper is used in our day-to-day lives!

Why recycle paper?

• By using waste paper to produce new paper, disposal problems are reduced.

• Producing recycled paper involves between 28 - 70% less energy consumption than virgin paper and uses less water. This is because most of the energy used in papermaking is the pulping needed to turn wood into paper.

• Recycled paper produces fewer polluting emissions to air (95% of air pollution) and water. Recycled paper is not usually re-bleached and where it is, oxygen rather than chlorine is usually used. This reduces the amount of dioxins, which are released into the environment as a by-product of the chlorine bleaching processes.

• Paper is a biodegradable material. This means that when it goes to landfill, as it rots, it produces methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas (20 times more potent than carbon dioxide). It is becoming increasingly accepted that global warming is a reality, and that methane and carbon dioxide emissions have to be reduced to lessen its effects.

And if you didn’t quite understand the above points, just know, that it’s ‘COOL’ to be eco-friendly these days! So if you’re not a part of the eco-friendly team, join now! I promise you two things:

1. You’ll be the coolest person around.

2. It doesn’t take much effort or money. It’s free of cost and guess what, there are unlimited seats!

Just remember. For every tonne of paper used for recycling, the savings are:

• At least 30000litres of water

• 3000 - 4000 KWh electricity (enough for an average 3 bedroom house for one year)

• 95% of air pollution

What can I do to reduce the amount of paper being wasted?

1. Try not to use as much in the first place! Use the back of sheets of paper as well as the front - look to see if that piece of paper you were going to put in the bin could be used as scrap paper for many uses. For example, to make a shopping list, to jot down your dental appointment or to leave a note for someone.

2. Buy recycled paper products wherever possible.

3. Reuse envelopes - sticky labels to cover the old address and re-seal the envelope are widely available, also made from recycled paper. Many charities sell them, so you can support them at the same time.

4. Playgroups and schools may appreciate being given odd rolls of wallpaper, or any other kind of paper, for painting on or for other uses in the classroom. They are also often glad to receive newspapers to cover the tables for craft activities.

5. When you buy a pint of milk or a soft drink, think about the container it is in. Is there an accessible recycling bank for the packaging, or might you end up throwing it away? It would be better to choose the product in the container you know you can dispose of locally for recycling.

6. Contact The Mailing Preference Service (details under further contacts) to avoid receiving unsolicited mail.

7. By putting a "no junk mail" sign by your letterbox you can cut junk mail such as pizza delivery leaflets by around 90%

Cafe Coffee Day

A lot can happen over coffee
A lot that changed my life

2 years and 8 months - that's exactly the amount of time I brewed myself at a place where young love blossoms / abhimanyu meets sarika on a blind date / Mr Tripathi is enjoying the morning newspaper sipping a hot cup of masala chai  / Sonu , Bunty and Preeti have bunked Mr Rao's boring lecture on economics / Rahul is late as usual and Shilpa is tired of waiting for him , but the cappucino is keeping her company /
This my friends is Cafe Coffee Day. Where on a bright sunny day a  17 yr old , confused , completely confused average looking chap decided to try out his luck and find out what fate had in store for him.

The Interview : -
He had to fake it ( not like an orgasm ) but with complete honesty , about his age - to make it as a suitable candidate for the job. Mr Amarjeet or Kamarjeet ( dont remember exactly ) stood near his reliable Bajaj chetak & asked the dude - so do you have a girlfriend & the reply was ..ummhh - "kinda"
That "Kinda" landed him his first job as a Team member ( Part Time ) @
Cafe Coffee Day - Music World , Pune
Work Hours : ( 4-10 ) with two 10 min breaks to either relieve yourself or grab a smoke whichever suits you.

3 months down the line :
Cold Coffee Machine , Hot Coffee Machine , preparing chillo mix , taking delivery of food items , table wiping, utensils washing, floor mopping, taking orders & serving orders, sweeping , preparing whip cream , kitchen order ticket , etc..etc.
Taught him the biggest lesson of his life -
There is Dignity of Labour in everything that you do !

Eleven Minutes

When we meet someone and fall in love, we have a sense that the whole universe is on our side.
I saw this happen today as the sun went down. And yet if something goes wrong, there is nothing left !
No heron, no distant music. How is it possible for the beauty that was there only minutes before to vanish so quickly.
Life moves very fast..It rushes us from heaven to hell in a matter of seconds.

PEPY - www.pepyride.org

Welcome to PEPY.
The idea for this organization started as a cycle trip across Cambodia. Six friends rode from the Thai border to Vietnam through the red dusty back roads of Cambodia to raise funds for educational projects. The team spent five weeks visiting schools and orphanages, teaching the first PEPY environmental lessons. This first PEPY Ride raised enough money to fund the construction of The PEPY Ride School in rural Chanleas Dai, Cambodia, which opened on December 31, 2005. Since then, PEPY has grown significantly, now operating as a non-profit organization (The PEPY Ride) registered in Cambodia and the US, and a responsible tour operator (PEPY Tours) that helps to fund educational initiatives in Cambodia.
PEPY stands for "Protect the Earth, Protect Yourself", an idea rooted in the lessons of the first PEPY Ride that taught about the relationship between the environment and our health. If you Protect the Earth, in effect, you also Protect Yourself. Our programs have grown to encompass much more than environmental education, but our basic ethos is still the same: by making small changes in our lives and continually striving to educate ourselves and those around us, collectively we can truly make a difference.
In our short history, we have learned a great deal about development strategies and how to implement programs. As our relationship with the community of Chanleas Dai grows stronger, the more effective and sustainable our educational programs become. The more we understand how our tours affect the communities where we work and the travelers who join us, the more responsible we can be.
So, to answer the question "What is PEPY?", we are an educational NGO funded through responsible tour operations. Or, we are an adventure voluntour operator funding sustainable educational projects. This hybrid model generates thousands of dollars for education programs in rural Cambodia each year, and connects travelers and supporters to the development initiatives that inspire them, allowing them to “be the change they wish to see in the world.”
PEPY’s work is made possible by our Khmer staff, our team of volunteer interns here in Cambodia, and the hundreds of virtual volunteers and past PEPY participants who continue to support us daily.

Make A Difference

Years of war have left many afghan childern mentally and physically scarred. Many parents have been killed or disabled and the poor still struggle to make ends meet. As a result , many parents have had to sacrifice their childerns education in order to put them to work.

The NGO "Aschiana" based in kabul was founded in 1995 to educate street & war affected youngsters. And for as little as $ 20 a month you can make a real difference to the life of an afghan child.

Brand Swiney !

Brand - Swiney
Swiney ! Whatever
Just another virus..somewhere in mexico !
That was the very first reaction that poured out of my head ( not that I have one ) when I first heard about it..
As someone and everyone who read the newspapers and keep themselves updated – I read mine as well..
It was only to keep myself updated ..just incase it was a topic of conversation over lunch and I was required to do some kinda value addition..
and that was then and now is now – here I am ..back from the heart of where all the action is going on – Pune…most popular these days for claiming India’s first swiney victim..
So how does a virus ( which is virtually unknown ) till sometime back manage to create so much of pandemonium among every single human being on the planet..,
How did this thing manage to draw more media attention, and get more media coverage and mileage than ( MJ , Presley ,Diana & Kennedy) GOD bless there souls ..they sure must be cursing Swiney.. together…some feat Swiney has managed to achieve in such a short period of time..Go Swiney !
The real reason behind Swiney becoming such a BIG Superstar in such a short period of time is - because of that little thing that exists within each one of us..even though as grown ups we always tend to deny it..its always there within us..so there is no fooling anybody..and this tiny winy itsy bitsy thing goes by the name of – FEAR..
Dar ke aage Jeet Hai !

Its 6 am in the morning , and the two people whom i cant stop thinking about are faisal and hassan..

My relationship with Faisal and hassan began in the early summer of April 2008..

That is the first time our eyes met each other and we had a brief conversation which lasted for not more than 20 secs...

After that blessed day -  my life changed forever...all i could think of was grabbing the attention of my  2 dear angels...

every time i visited the driving school..a brief moment with them was all i seeked..

but nonetheless , sometimes they were there , sometimes they were not there...

most days i came back disappointed.. now i have come to a point where i cant wait any longer..

i dream about them  in the nights and day dream about them during the days..

i have come to a point where i have decided that if either one of them does not accept my proposal ,

i am going to fall on my knees and humbly request them to give me a chance , let me be part of their everyday lives..

i would do anything , and believe me when i say anything  - to get my date with them..

over the last 1 and 1/2 year they have taught me some of the most beautiful lessons in life..

those of patience and perseverance...they have taught me to never give up , no matter what happens..

they have also taught me to self...motivate myself every time i come back from their school..

Faisal and hassan , i hope ..from the deepest and darkest ocean of my heart -  you read this blog and give me that date..

Dear Reader - if you are thinking , what i think you are thinking about , i am sorry to disappoint you..

Love Aaj Kal
For all those who have ever loved somebody in a - one way tunnel with no light and absolute darkness at the other end of it..
IF there was one love story that would interest any Bollywood director whose rip offs have ripped off every movie goers wildest imagination..
This ones an absolute original from the stable of my heart..
They say its easy to like somebody and hard to forget that somebody..
Absolute crap! Scaling Nandadevi or Kalaparbhat would seem like a walk up the hill..
Why is love so complicated ? and why does it bring about the greatest amount of joy with an equal amount of pain./. maybe that’s the equation of balance that brought the downfall of Troy..
I think she is the one – that’s what Sahil told himself the very first time it struck him..
It undoubtedly was - the most beautiful feeling that left him completely thunderstruck..
To describe her would be like describing the valley of flowers.. Every single flower in that valley would feel less beautiful in front of this angel..
Each flower - one of its kind , so special and beautiful that one would be in complete awe upon its sight and would question his holiness whether this was for real..
for that is exactly what the Sahil asked himself ..is this for real ? It felt as if his holiness had decided to take the day off and shower him with a thousand blessings all at the same time..
To be continued…

Ama(Gone)

Friends and Campaign Members - All i wanted to do was read a book.
So where did I go ?
" AMAZON"
Why ?
Because I thought it was - The worlds most amazing and user friendly website to buy a book
What I didnt know ?
Amazon had the worlds worst service level !
So here goes my story :
Waiting and endless waiting at the end of a dark tunnel which never seems to end is what i am currently going through.
I logged onto Amazon on Dec 23rd 2008 to buy the book " Erikk The Giant" with a lot of enthusiasm. The estimated delivery time for the book was 23rd April ( 4 months from the date of booking ) . Seemed like they were shipping it from the Planet Mars. Today is the 28th of April and there is no sign of my book. I have already been debited for the purchase made in the month of January.
When i wrote to amazon , somebody from their customer relations dept wrote back to me explaining the entire delivery time process.
I am still waiting. So Mr Amazon - where's my stuff ?

The Deport - Part 1

The Deport : Part 1Not in the wildest of my dreams had i imagined that this would happen to me ! Today was going to be like any other normal day , except that i had no clue what was in store for me. So allow me to take you through the TRAUMA that i faced - all because some whackjob decided that i did not fit into his category. Flight QR 105 ...landed at Qatar Intl Airport at 06:55 am on a bright sunny morning. Passenger ( Pax ) disembarked from his flight and went straight to the immigration counter to get a visa on arrival. What the poor pax did not know , is that he could not get one..Get one ? What ? Get one - visa on arrival. Why ? Because some whackjob whose wife made him do the dishes and the laundry last night - simply decided that the pax did not fall into the so-called category. Now.. what category did the pax fall into ? only God Almighty can answer this question. So what happened next ? The poor pax was made to sit at the airport cluelessly for almost 2 hrs beforeThe Deport : Part 1 Continued..The poor pax was made to sit at the airport cluelessly for almost 2 hrs before another whackjob decided his fate. Helpless pax was told that he would not be allowed to fly to Bahrain , inspite of having a flight tckt to BAH. Frustrated pax was asked to book a ticket for himself on the next flight out to Dubai at 12:... Read more25pm,and he was directed towards Qatar duty free ( which by the way sucks and can never come close to Dubai duty free for another 100 years ).Authorities at the airport were absolutely 100 % non co-operative. They refused to let the pax even have his passport - like he was some criminal.Pax currently holds the designation of an Asst Brand Manager and has a status of Food services supervisor on his UAE resident visa. But did not make it to the Oscar category laid down by the Airport whackies...
